Proposition 65 is a California law that requires businesses to disclose chemicals which have been deemed to cause reproductive or developmental harm or to cause cancer.

Proposition 65 became law in November 1986. It is also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

Since 1986, the “list” has evolved. Periodically chemicals are added, and in rare cases, removed. December 2021 was no different. There were several chemicals added, including a fairly common chemical Tetrahydrofuran.

The following were added to the list in December:

  • 2-Ethylhexyl acrylate (CAS 103-11-7) – Cancer
  • Methyl Acrylate (CAS 96-33-3) – Cancer
  • Tetrahydrofuran (CAS 109-99-9) – Cancer

If any of these chemicals are used in your product, you will need to update your Safety Data Sheet and your product label.
